Bank of Saint Lucia continues to flex its muscle in the fight against breast cancer in Saint Lucia, and even more so in the month of October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Bank has undertaken and supported a number of initiatives aimed at creating greater awareness of the prevalence of breast cancer; the importance of early detection and diagnosis; and support for the many who have been impacted by breast cancer.

For another successive year, the Bank distributed its signature Pink Cans across its branch network. Customers and staff deposit contributions however small or large in these cans and at the close of the month all proceeds go to Faces of Cancer. The proceeds from the sale of signature BOSL Pink Bags will also go towards the charity organization.

BOSL has also supported Faces of Cancer by sponsoring mammogram tests as part of its Annual Breast Health Fairs hosted throughout October and early November. Bank staff actively participate in Think Pink Fridays where each employee makes a contribution in order to wear cancer awareness colors on Fridays throughout the month of October and November.

Bank of Saint Lucia is also a Collateral Sponsor of the Yoplait Walk for Cancer hosted by Massy Stores St. Lucia. Bank staff are expected play a major role in the walk as both participants and as volunteers at the BOSL Gros Islet water-stop. The Bank extends congratulations to Massy Stores St. Lucia on the 10 Year Anniversary milestone of the Yoplait Walk for Cancer.

Maria Fowell, Manager – Marketing & Corporate Communications, explained the Bank’s rationale its involvement. “Breast cancer has impacted nearly every household in St. Lucia directly or indirectly. Even more alarming is the continued increase in incidences of breast cancer, not only in females but also in males. The need for promoting greater awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection and diagnosis has never been greater. As a responsible, indigenous institution, it is our duty to lend our support to the ongoing awareness activities.”

Massy Stores and Yoplait continue the fight against breast cancer

October 6th 2017 – Once again, Massy Stores and Yoplait™ have reaffirmed their commitment to the early detection of breast cancer, while raising funds for women living with the disease.  All St. Lucians are invited to be a part of their 2017 Cancer Campaign under the theme “2 More Reasons to Join Us in the Fight”.

Each year Massy Stores and Yoplait™ organizes a number of special initiatives to help support women who are dealing with breast cancer. Earlier today, the company launched the 10th anniversary of the six-week campaign where all funds raised from a number of initiatives support the work of the National Community Foundation and Faces of Cancer in that regard. Oncologist Dr. Owen Gabriel was the guest speaker at the event.

Dr. Gabriel, lauded Massy Stores for its contributions to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign and noted it has grown in formidable proportions as a result of the work put forward by the company and its partners. According to Dr. Gabriel, “this is the kind networking and collaboration we seek,” and added, “both from the standpoint of the National Non-Communicable Disease Commission, which I Chair and as the Head of Department Head of the Department of Oncology at VH.  This is the kind of strategy that I am interested in, this Multi-Agency Strength Strategy or MASS for short which pools resources together and uses expertise of diverse groups, we are sure to create an invincible force to combat cancer.”

The Breast Cancer Awareness and Fund-Raising campaign which runs until November 12th includes continuous promotion of the importance of healthy lifestyles and good nutrition amongst women as a means of combating and managing this disease.  At the heart of the campaign are various activities which provide funds to be placed in a special cancer fund; Yoplait Yogurt promotion, branded merchandise, an auction night and the now signature Walk Against Cancer scheduled for November 5th from Massy Stores Mega to Pigeon Island. To mark the 10th anniversary of the campaign all walkers will get a chance to win 10 attractive prizes with one of the top prizes being a trip for two to New York.

“These kinds of initiatives that benefit the health of our women fill us with great joy and optimism. Over the years, we have remained firm in supporting the fight against breast cancer, assisting to bring awareness and raise funds for women living with this disease. This year we hope to surpass the 2016 donation of $62,000 and we know that with the support of our sponsors, the public and our team members this can be realised”, said Sancha Raggie, Marketing Manager of Massy Stores.
